"A preliminary investigation suggest the gates were in the down position, safety warning system was fully engaged when the vehicle being operated by a female proceeded through," Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said in a statement.

Commuter Rail operator Keolis also said the crossing gates and warning system were working at the time of the crash.

Officials have not released the driver's identity.

"We are still investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident," Sullivan said.

Shuttle buses replaced Kingston Line trains for several hours Wednesday afternoon. Normal service has since resumed.
