Driver Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash In Tewksbury On Friday

TEWKSBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A young driver has died after a single-vehicle crash in Tewksbury on Friday.

Massachusetts State Police said the crash happened just after 12 p.m., when the operator, identified as 19-year-old Simon Daponta of Malden, was driving a 2009 Freightliner M2 box truck southbound on I-93.

They believe Daponta may have fallen asleep at the wheel, pushing the truck to strike the guardrail and roll over onto the driver's side.

The two passengers in the truck's cab were not injured in the crash -- and no other vehicles were involved.

State police are now investigating the incident.
