FALL RIVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Students at B.M.C Durfee High School in Fall River announced that the Grand Opening Event for the Granite Grille & Elevations Beauty Academy will take place on Thursday. According to a post on the school's website, the event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, beauty treatments, and a buffet.

A grand opening ticket for $14.95 will offer attendees a seat at the buffet, while an $18 combo ticket will include an additional service at the beauty salon.

Students at Durfee High School said that they've been busy getting ready for the grand opening, prepping the fish and burgers while cleaning and making sure everything is sanitized.

The student-run restaurant and beauty salon was designed to give Durfee High School students the real world career experience, said Chef Instructor Matthew Bettencourt. Bettencourt called the grill "a behind the scenes look at what they're going to see when they get a job."

Granite Grille displayed an extensive menu with items like clam chowder, shrimp Mozambique, and chicken piccata. Elevations Beauty Academy, located across the hall, advertised that they offer discounted haircuts, colorings, manicures, pedicures, and facial cosmetic services.

Kerry Torres of the school's Cosmetology department told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe, "We just want people to have the opportunity to come in, see the space, see how great our students are, and give the students the opportunity to showcase how hard they've worked already since the start of the semester."
