DUXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Duxbury Beach was a victim of multiple acts of vandalism this past week.

Duxbury Beach Reservation released a statement detailing the situation.

They said that a scientific educational sign was stolen along with its posts and stand, all of which was valued at $8,500.

DBR's statement also said that a bottlenose dolphin was found dead and mutilated on the beach , with its head and tail removed. This act of marine animal abuse is a federal crime.

The reservation mentioned how this wasn’t the first time these acts have occurred there, as numerous safety signs have also been stolen before.

When talking to visitors on the beach, people like Linda were shaken up a bit by the dolphin mutilation.

“I enjoy seeing them from a distance so much,” Linda said. “It worries me what might have happened, I hope they can figure it out.”

Tom was also shaken up, but grateful for the reservation's work in remedying these issues.

“I think it’s wonderful that we have people looking out for the wildlife here,” Tom said.

Another passerby also shared their frustration with the situation.

“Nobody likes to see dead anything,” the man said. “But when it’s your home and you’re here everyday and you love it, it seems like a health hazard.”

DBR ended their statement thanking visitors who keep the beach a welcoming place, despite those who have caused these issues.

“We know these actions don't reflect the spirit of our incredible Duxbury Beach community. Most visitors care deeply and show real respect for this beautiful place,” the reservation said in their statement. “Let's continue to protect what we love. If you see something, say something. And please help us share this message.”
