DUXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — People in Duxbury are concerned about a new battery storage facility that could be constructed in the town.
"We feel it doesn't belong in a neighborhood," one resident said.
Residents say they are prepared for the next hearing about the facility scheduled for Sept. 9.
"We want to stop this project from coming in," one woman said.

The project was first proposed by New Leaf Energy company, Duxbury Energy Storage, LLC, in 2023. The five-megawatt lithium-ion battery storage facility has several locals concerned about the impact of the project on the neighborhood.
"This size and scope and the location, we don't think it's appropriate," another local stated.
The battery facilities help shore up energy storage, but some residents are concerned about power lines, fires, the impact on evacuation zones, water pollution, and more.
"There's certainly going to be toxic fumes," a resident remarked.
In a Notice of Intent," New Leaf Energy states the project layout has been designed to limit the impact of the construction on the 100-foot isolated vegetated wetlands and to prevent erosion and siltation from running off the site when possible.
Initially, the Zoning Board of Appeals upheld the decision that the storage facility would not be permitted in the area. Land Court Judge Lauren Reznick overturned that decision in July.
