DUXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A nine-feet-tall and roughly thousand-pound dragon that's been watching over the Town of Duxbury for years has just turned old enough to vote and get called for jury duty.
Celebrating "Draco the Dragon's" 18th birthday, Chuck and Robin Nudd say the mythical metaled creature has made laps around town for sporting events and holiday parades, decked out in an ever-changing wardrobe. When's he's not batting his wings around town, Draco sits outside his dragon's den just off Tremont Street or Route 3A in Duxbury.
Chuck tells WBZ's Brooke McCarthy that Draco originally started out as a jungle gym for his son, standing guard in front of the family's home. But since then, the green beast has turned into something of a local legend and landmark for the South Shore town.
"You know it gets everybody laughing and puts everybody in a good spirit. He likes to dress up and likes to have fun, and pulls that spirit into everybody's life," Chuck said.
Robin fashions Draco's costumes to match holidays, movie themes, and other town going-ons.
"Those are a lot of fun, it's definitely a collaboration. It's just one of those great family traditions that got extended out to the community," Robin said.

Nowadays Draco is treated as a celebrity, and even gets his own fan mail from time to time.
"I want to see you be Rudolph for Christmas, my whole family loves you," Chuck read one of the letters addressed to Draco.
Since Duxbury High School's mascot is the dragon, Draco fits the atmosphere and shows up to sports games with wings outstretched and school spirit to the nines.
