East Boston Man Arrested After Needham-Waltham Police Chase

WALTHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 52-year-old East Boston man is under arrest after leading State Police on a chase from Needham to Waltham Friday morning.

State Police said it all began when Trooper Thomas O'Shea tried to stop a car for driving across all four lanes of Route 128 Northbound in Needham, near Exit 19.

The driver wouldn't stop, so O'Shea and other nearby troopers pursued him as he "continued to drive erratically," State Police said.

Police put down a series of tire deflation devices, but the driver stopped before driving over them. He refused to get out of the car, so State Police said they broke a window to drag him out and arrest him.

The man, who has not yet been named, was taken to Lahey Clinic for evaluation. State Police said several troopers "suffered minor injuries while extracting the resisting suspect from the vehicle."
