BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Christmas arrived early at Catholic Charities in Brockton, where the charitable arm of the Archdiocese of Boston received a generous donation for those in need.
Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan thanked Eastern Bank for the monetary donation that paid for the food that will go to 15 non-profits in Greater Brockton.
"Such generosity during the holiday season, Eastern Bank, Eastern Bank Foundation have donated a million dollars to help us fight food insecurity. If we're going to be getting really high, healthy, quality food, give them out to residents in the City of Champions," Sullivan said.

Kelley Tuthill with Catholic Charities was on hand to help pass out food.
"The snap crisis this fall, I think, brought a lot of much needed attention to the problem of food insecurity. People don't realize it's often working people. It's senior citizens who should be enjoying retirement, but are instead so anxious about how they're going to get the food that they desperately need," Tuthill stated.
The organizations helped prepare the delivery of more than 13,000 pounds of donated food to needy families for Christmas.
"People are really just trying to live paycheck to paycheck right now, and we have a lot of seniors here in the City of Brockton that are really fighting food insecurity. We have a lot of families with young children as well, l and we have a lot of homeless folks that need our help," said Tuthill.
