CHELSEA, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New Englanders are getting prepared for the snow by stocking up on salt.

Trucks at Eastern Salt were filled to the brim with salt on Friday morning to prepare for an impending snowstorm. Manager Cornelius Martin said it was all hands on deck to get the state ready.

“We’re getting ready for the snowstorm, so there will be a lot of trucks today. People are stocking up, City of Boston, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, all the municipalities and towns. Basically, we’re a safety company and our goal is to provide salt to the customers as needed,” said Martin.

Their pile of salt has continued to grow in the last two years, after a mild winter last year and a lack of snow to start this winter.

“We have more salt in the yard. Last year was kind of an off year and we haven’t had any weather yet, so the yard is pretty much full,” said Martin.

Martin said it will not be any easier for Eastern Salt after the storm, as they cover all of New England and even as far south as Delaware.

“Monday people will restock because you get the freeze, you know. You get the thaw and the freeze in New England, so the DPW groups, they’re all out there in the morning salting for those slippery spots that froze overnight,” said Martin.
