Sen. Markey Calls For Trump's Impeachment On Senate Floor

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey is now officially calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

"I stand here today on the Senate floor, the place where an unprecedented trial would occur, understanding the gravity of this moment in our nation's history," Markey said. "I stand here today because I believe we have reached the moment where we must stand up for the survival of our democracy."

Sen. Markey said his call comes at a crucial time for the country, after former Special Counsel Robert Mueller testified in front of Congress Wednesay that Russia attacked the 2016 elections with the aim of getting Trump into office and would do so again.

"He agreed that it was 'unpatriotic and wrong' to seek campaign help from a foreign power, and he decried President Trump's failure to acknowledge or respond to the systematic and sweeping Russian interference, warning 'They're doing it as we sit here'," Markey said.

Markey joins several other Massachusetts lawmakers calling for impeachment proceedings to start now, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Reps. Jim McGovern, Lori Trahan, Joe Kennedy, Katherine Clark, and Seth Moulton.
