Elderly Newton Man Dies After Two-Alarm House Fire

NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An elderly man hospitalized after a two-alarm house fire in Newton has died of his injuries, officials said.

Authorities said the fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night at 16 Lincoln Road.

Fire crews arrived and rescued two people who were trapped in the building. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes.

Both people suffered serious injuries. One of the people, an 80-year-old man, died at Mass. General Hospital on Friday, officials said.

Investigators are still determining the cause of the fire, but have determined that it began in the basement and does not appear suspicious.
