BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio)  Polling centers in Massachusetts are open for voters to cast their ballots on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Polls across the state opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m on Election Day. Those who are in line before closing time will still be allowed to vote.

You might be asked to present identification if you are, voting for the first time, an inactive voter, casting a provisional or challenged ballot, or a poll worker who has a practical and legal reason to ask for identification.

Acceptable I.Ds include state driver's license or state-issued ID card, recent utility bills, signed lease, copy of a voter registration affidavit, letter from a school dormitory or housing office, or any other printed identification which contains the voter's name and address.

Registration to vote will not be available onsite as the deadline to register in Massachusetts has passed.

Several New England colleges have cancelled classes today to show support for civil engagement and to allow more time for community members to vote. These campuses include University of Massachusetts Amherst, Tuft University, Suffolk University, and Brown University.

As of Monday, Nov. 4, nearly 1.8 million ballots have been casted in Massachusetts, that is 33.6 percent of all registered voters, state officials told WBZ NewsRadio.

The first ballots in the country was tallied in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire at midnight on Election Day. The six registered voters tied the race, three votes for Vice President Kamala Harris and three for former President Donald Trump.
