BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced a new program that helps eligible city residents buy an E-bike for their own personal use.
It's called the 'Boston E-Bikes Incentive Program.'
e-Bikes are growing in popularity, but with costly price tags, can be out of reach for some.
Kim Folz is the Program Manager for Boston Bikes and said the new program will help make e-Bikes more affordable. "We'll provide a discount towards the purchase of an e-Bike for Boston residents who are seniors, have a disability, or people with low income," she said.
The city is using $1.5 million from the American Rescue Plan Act to fund the e-Bike voucher program.
The application process runs from August 12th through August 24th.
Qualified applicants will be randomly selected to receive a voucher that can be used within 90 days in person at one of the participating bike shops.
The lottery results will be announced on August 26th.
