HAMPTON, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An emergency has been declared after high seas and flooding in Hampton, N.H.
Authorities issued the emergency declaration around 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday as flooding covered Ocean Boulevard, telling residents to evacuate to higher ground. Firefighters helped people escape as the big waves reached the mainland and covered the parking lots near the beach.
The flooding hit the hardest at high tide on Wednesday morning. WBZ-TV’s Meteorologist Jason Mikell said the area could see more flooding when high tide returns at 10:35 P.M. on Wednesday.
The Hampton Police Department said the evacuation shelter for those affected will be the Hampton Academy gymnasium.
