CONCORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) Two emerging artists are getting ready to perform at the Umbrella Arts Center in Concord, supported by grants from a local nonprofit.

Farayi Malek and Sofia Lafuente are both recipients of artist grants from Salt Lick Incubator, an organization that provides new artists with money and resources.

The show is part of the Umbrella Arts Series, which partners with the nonprofit to give featured artists a chance to perform.

Malek is a Grammy-nominated artist and teaches at Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory. She used the grant to make her debut “Edge of the Earth,” which just dropped.

“I’m so excited, it’s been a longtime coming and a long process. I've been working on this project for two years. It’s an exciting day,” Malek said.

Lafuente called the grant program “a lifesaver.”

“When you're trying to work off of the momentum that you’re building on a career, grants like these really save us,” Lafuente said.

During a studio session in Newton Centre to prepare for the show, the two artists said they’re ready to get on stage together.

“I’m so excited, especially excited to perform with Sofia,” Malek said.

The show is Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available here
