BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Leftover cafeteria food at Emerson College will be donated to local students in need this winter break.
The Bon Appetit Management Company, which caters Emerson's dining hall, is donating leftover prepared foods, produce, pantry, and refrigerated items to Food For Free, a non-profit helping fight food insecurity.
As part of its Heat-n-Eats program, Food For Free will turn the leftovers into meals and deliver them to Elizabeth Peabody House in Somerville and East Boston Harborside Community School.

"Today we received I believe just about 350 pounds of donations," said Molly Hansen, Senior Program Manager at Food For Free.
Food For Free and Bon Appetit started their partnership about five years ago, doing bulk donations when college kids go on break.
"We do two bulk donations a year at the end of every semester," Bon Appetit Resident District Manager Dawn Sajdyk told WBZ NewsRadio.
Sajdyk said Wednesday's donation will make about 800 frozen heat-and-eat meals.
"Students really care about sustainability and giving back to the community, so it’s really nice from our point of view to be able to give food away instead of having to throw it out," said Emerson's Associate Director of Sustainability Jennifer Lamy.
