BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — For the first time since the pandemic forced its closure in mid-March, Encore Boston Harbor has started welcoming customers back onto the gaming floor.
According to a video released by the resort, several health and safety measures will be taken inside the casino, the restaurants, and the hotel rooms.
In the video, Encore's President Brian Gullbrants said guests and staff will be scanned by a "non-invasive thermal temperature scanner" as they enter the building. Anyone with a temperature about 100.4F will not be allowed inside.
Everyone in the resort is required to wear a face covering. Gullbrants said complimentary disposable masks will be available at the entrance, along with touch-less hand sanitizers and disinfecting wipes located throughout the resort.
Slot machines and other frequently-touched surfaces will also be disinfected regularly by staff, and the casino has installed plexiglass barriers around the table games. Restaurants will also be under reduced capacity restrictions.
Gullbrants said Encore's hotel rooms will be sanitized following COVID-19 guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The rooms are also equipped with "touch-less Amazon Alexa controls" for lighting and temperature.
Encore is the second of the state's three casinos to reopen since Phase Three of the reopening guidelines went into effect on Monday, July 6th. Plainridge Park Casino was the first to start welcoming gamblers back inside last Wednesday.
According to Boston Business Journal, in the days before reopening, Encore brought back 1,700 employees out of the 3,000 employees that had been furloughed in early July.
