Encore Boston Harbor Casino Struggling To Meet Revenue Expectations

EVERETT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Gaming Commission released its numbers for the month of January, and they show revenue expectations falling short once again for the Encore Boston Harbor resort and casino.

The Gaming Commission said the nearly $3 billion casino generated less than $49 million in the first month of 2020, down from $54 million in December 2019.

The casino has been aiming for $66 million in monthly revenue, but has fallen short every month since opening last June.

At the same time, the state's other casinos are rebounding. MGM Springfield brought in $21 million in January, up from $19 million in December; Plainridge Park in Plainville also saw an uptick, bringing in over $11 million.

Encore has also taken other steps to attract more business and cut costs, including making parking free, lowering table minimums, introducing less expensive eating options, and switching to robotic bartenders.
