Ethel Kennedy, Human Rights Advocate And Wife Of RFK, Dies At 96

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Ethel Kennedy, the wife of Robert F. Kennedy and matriarch of the Kennedy dynasty, died Thursday at the age of 96.

Her daughter, Kerry Kennedy, wrote in a post on X that she died from "complications related to a stroke suffered last week."

"She was a devout Catholic and a daily communicant, and we are comforted in knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life, our father, Robert F. Kennedy; her children David and Michael; her daughter-in-law Mary; her grandchildren Maeve and Saoirse; and her great-grandchildren Gideon and Josie," the post said.

Ethel Kennedy was a longtime human rights advocate, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014 by then-President Barack Obama.

She had a total of 11 children, including former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Her husband, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1968 while he was running for president. His brother, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas in 1963.
