RAYNHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts is filled with town names that can leave even locals sometimes struggling to pronounce correctly. Worcester, Peabody, Gloucester, Leicester, Scituate.... the list goes on and on.

One town in Massachusetts has even gotten so frustrated with people mispronouncing its name, the Raynham Police Department posted on social media the proper pronunciation of Raynham, which is pronounced with the 'h' 'Rain-ham' rather than the more commonly mispronounced 'Rain-um.'

We asked residents why all the confusion. "I'm a local, and I've been here my whole life," one said. "I'm going to keep calling it 'Rain-um' .... you're not going to change locals."

Another said he thinks it has to do with the Boston accent. "It seems most of the towns in Massachusetts are mispronounced. Maybe it has to do with our accents."
