BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Juneteenth is the celebration of the emancipation of the last enslaved Black people in the Confederacy in 1865. All events listed are happening on Friday, June 19th.
- Freedom Fête at the ICA
- "Four DJs from around the U.S. will celebrate the beauty and contributions of the African Diaspora in their musical selections." The DJs will be giving their money to two organizations, the National Bailout Fund and Boston Ujima Project. 8 p.m.
- Funk the Police: Juneteenth Edition
- According to the event page, this will be a "musical speakout and rally against police brutality and racism in support of local families who have lost loved ones to police violence." Taking place at Ronan Park, 5 p.m.
- Concert with Dzidzor: Freedom as an Act of Practice
- This event is presented by the Boston Public Library and will be featured on their livestream. 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Juneteenth: MFA Community Celebration
- A series of readings, talks, and musical performances will be streamed on the museum's website,Youtube, and Facebook. 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- 10th Annual Juneteenth Emancipation Observance
- Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley will be speaking at the virtual event. There will be historical readings and a libation ceremony. Virtual links will be sent to registered emails. 1 p.m to 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
