EVERETT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Everett City Hall closed its doors for the day on Sept. 8, after a cybersecurity incident occurred over Labor Day weekend.
Since Sept. 6, IT professionals have been working to secure the city's systems while investigating what brought about the incident.
A handwritten note over the City Hall door let visitors know about the closure and advised them to call Everett's non-emergency number for assistance.
"I just took the bus, and I was just going to come here to fill out some paperwork and stuff, and I wasn't expecting them to be closed," Aaron, a visitor who wasn't informed about the closure, said. "It sucks. I wish I had known."
Everett Public Schools, libraries and public works are all still open.
This comes after another cyberattack in Springfield that led to the closure of schools on Sept 8. It's unknown if the two cyberattacks are related.
"I heard about the Springfield closings this morning, but nothing about this, so this is a shock," another City Hall visitor said.
