EVERETT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Everett residents have a chance to weigh in on a proposed soccer stadium on Monday night.

The Kraft Group has set its sights on Everett, Mass., as a possible landing spot for a new stadium for the New England Revolution. The stadium is still in its planning stages, but if approved, it would be located across from the Encore Boston Harbor casino.

While it has become a major discussion within the community, a meeting at Everett City Hall on Monday night will be residents' first chance to voice their opinions on the proposal in front of the City Council. Mayor Carlo DeMario will also be in attendance.

WBZ NewsRadio’s Jim MacKay asked residents whether they supported bringing a stadium to the city.

“I don’t know if I’m fully opposed, but I do want to make sure our interests are protected and heard,” said one man.

“Traffic is probably the top concern,” said one woman.

Ruth is an Everett resident and said she wants nothing to do with more construction or raucous fans.

“How would you like to have nighttime roaring [crowds] about a block away?” said Ruth.

Denise is also a resident but is not opposed to more construction. She just wants the focus to be more on the general public.

“We would love to see more housing and more retail, [not] the type of crime that a big sports event might bring, drunken fans, and trash,” said Denise.

The meeting is set to begin at 6:30 on Monday night at Everett City Hall.
