BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Eversource is preparing for power outages across New England ahead of the impending Nor’easter Wednesday evening.
The winter storm could bring up to 18 inches of snow in some parts of Massachusetts. The Boston area could get 8-12 inches.
“We’re going to be pre-staging hundreds of crews throughout our service territory,” Eversource spokesperson Reid Lamberty said. “We’re also going to be adding some customer service representatives in all of our call centers.”
Lamberty said it is important for everyone to charge any electronics, like cell phones and tablets, in anticipation. He also suggests stocking up on a storm kit.
“Create an emergency plan with your family members, your friends, your neighbors,” Lamberty said. “And most importantly, please stay clear of any down wires. Assume that wire is live and report them immediately to 911.”
Some natural gas heating systems can also be impacted by power outages.
“It’s very important for our customers to keep all of their meters and their outdoor vents clear of any snow and any ice build-up. But, please remove it carefully,” Lamberty said.
He suggests customers their hands or a broom to gently clear away any excess powder or ice.
Lamberty also said that if “you smell your home or business, immediately leave and call 911. And then give us a call and remain outside until we can clear the scene.”
