ACTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Everything must go at beloved Gould's Distinctive Clothing in Acton.
After 89 years in business, the last 50 in Acton, owner Lester Gould said it's time for him to retire and to once and for all close the store for good now that his longtime manager passed away and his brother retired. "Business is good," he said. "But I can't replace these people. Staffing is hard since the pandemic, especially in retail."
Meanwhile, Gould's customers have been sending their congratulations and best wishes on social media while expressing their sadness over the store's closing.
A longtime customer Margaret came inside the store on Tuesday for one last time. She said that her mother used to work at the store. "To come in and see the store almost empty is very, very sad," she said. "I feel like I grew up here. It really feels like the end of an era."
