FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The New England Patriots are building some excitement after a big win to start the season.

The Patriots took on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, in what many fans thought would be the start of a long season. Despite the somber tone, fans did not have anything to criticize once the team took the field.

“It turned out to be great,” said one fan.

“I found myself always waiting for that one turnover from the offense and it never came today and they closed out a game, which was refreshing. I want to keep an open mind, but we’ll see what happens,” said another fan.

The Patriots ultimately got the victory in Ohio, beating the Bengals 16-10. The offensive line took a lot of heat ahead of Game 1, but they helped clear the path as running back Rhamondre Stephenson racked up 120 yards rushing.

“They played awesome. Wire-to-wire they ran the ball well. Jacoby [Brissett], I don’t think, it didn’t feel like he was under pressure the whole game, so they played well,” said one fan.

Other fans were happy to see former linebacker, now head coach, Jerod Mayo get off to a great start.

“It was cool to see Jerod get the Gatorade bath. [It’s] kind of exciting to watch,” said another fan. “It definitely wasn’t fun last year.”

The Patriots first home game takes place next Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
