BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A leg lift here and a brisk walk there might help your overall health, according to a study from the Cleveland Clinic.

Referred to as "exercise snacks," the brief periods of physical activity can help your overall health and well-being. Doctors say just 30-second intervals throughout the day can improve cardiorespiratory fitness and reduce the negative impacts of sedentary behavior.

"Walk, I'll do stairs, squats, I'll do some ab work," one local said.

Experts also say, just like anything, consistency is key in order to see real results.

"Absolutely, staying moving, staying busy, keeping the body going, getting the blood flowing. It just helps it go," another local said.

Particularly for people who are physically inactive or have little to no movement on a daily basis, the simple things, such as jumping jacks or squats in short intervals can improve cardio vascular health, relieve stress, and inspire folks to achieve fitness goals.

"Take stairs instead of elevators," one resident said.

Although more research is still needed to analyze the overall impact of "exercise snacks," experts say any movement is better than no movement.
