BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The National Weather Service has declared an Extreme Heat Warning for most of Massachusetts until Tuesday night.
The warning went into effect on Sunday, when temperatures reached 94 degrees in Boston, according to AccuWeather.
Temperatures on Monday are expected to reach 89 degrees in Boston, and up to 99 degrees in more western parts of the state. Humidity could make it feel like 100 to 110 degrees away from the coast, according to the NWS.
Tuesday is forecasted to be the hottest day of the bunch, with highs of 100 degrees and feels like temperatures up to 110 degrees across the state.
During the Extreme Heat Warning, the NWS advises residents to stay hydrated, find somewhere with cooling or air conditioning, limit strenuous activity outside and never leave children or pets unattended inside cars.
Those who work outdoors are also encouraged to take frequent breaks and stay in the shade as often as possible, according to the NWS.
The precautions are aimed at preventing heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The NWS says symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, sweating, nausea and weakness. If you’re experiencing heat exhaustion, the NWS says to move to a cooler area, loosen clothes and sip cool water.
Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke, which requires medical attention. It can cause confusion, dizziness or loss of consciousness.
Temperatures will cool down starting on Wednesday, with highs in the upper 80s that day and highs in the 70s on Thursday.
