FALMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An armed standoff at a home in Falmouth Tuesday ended with a woman dead and a man in custody, police said.
Police responded to a call at 49 Old Main Rd. saying that someone had been shot. They arrived to find a man in the driveway with a gun and a woman shot in an upstairs bedroom, according to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe.
The woman was identified by authorities as Kianna Barrows, 20, who lived in the home.
The armed suspect, later identified as Tyler Gibbs, 23, negotiated with local, state, and SWAT officials for close to three hours. Eventually, the suspect was seen putting down his gun and walking with his hands up, kneeling in the roadway and then being handcuffed by police.
Gibbs is now facing a murder charge for Barrows' death.
The standoff prompted nearby North Falmouth School to go on lockdown as a precaution. In a statement, Falmouth Public Schools superintendent Lori Duerr said the students and staff were safe.
Police said state police detectives were leading the investigation.
