LEWISTON, Maine (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Thursday, the family of Lewiston, Maine shooter Robert Card will be publicly testifying since the tragic shooting which left 18 dead and 13 others injured at a bowling alley in October of last year.
Card’s family had previously released a statement in March after it was discovered from brain tissue analysis that Card suffered from traumatic brain injuries. Card’s relatives also informed police about his mental health challenges. He also served as an Army Reservist and reportedly worked in hand grenade training.
According to army reserve records, Card had a well-documented mental health breakdown that was of such severity that he was reported by fellow reservists during training last summer at a base in New York, which required brief hospitalization last year.

Police had previously testified that Card’s family had agreed to remove guns in his possession because of his mental health challenges, however, the State Commission investigating the shooting determined that leaving that action up to Card’s family was an abdication of law enforcement’s responsibility.
Card’s family will testify before the State Commission investigating the tragic shooting.
