BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The family of a Marine Corps. veteran who was stabbed to death outside a Boston bar say they will file a civil lawsuit against the bar by the end of the week.

Daniel Martinez was allegedly stabbed to death by Alvaro Larrama, a bouncer at the Sons of Boston bar, on March 19th. Prosecutors say Larrama stabbed followed Martinez outside the bar after an argument and stabbed him to death. He's facing murder charges.

Apolonia Martinez, Daniel's mother, spoke at a press conference on Thursday. She and her family were in town for a probable cause hearing in Larrama's case.

"I've had a lot of outreach from other mothers who have lost their children to violence, and they have been very supportive," she said. She also thanked the Boston and Chicago communities for their support.

At a press conference, attorney for the family Thomas Flaws outlined the legal strategy of foiling a lawsuit now.

"We're sure that the bar is talking to lawyers and preparing a defense, and we need to prepare our case," he said.

The bar has had its alcohol and entertainment licenses suspended by the city.

WBZ NewsRadio reached out to the Sons of Boston for comment and has not heard back.
