Famous Providence Bug Joins "Good Night Lights" Tradition At Hasbro

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (WBZ NewsRadio) — Nibbles Woodaway, the famous giant blue termite sitting atop the Big Blue Bug building in Providence, is now taking part in the "Good Night Lights" tradition, which has been a beloved tradition for five years.

The bug is the famous mascot for Big Blue Bug Solutions Pest Control Company.

Nibbles is 58 feet long, 9 feet tall and 4,000 pounds and he is now shining his light nightly for patients at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

Good Night Lights is a community program where Hasbro patients sit by their windows every night and wait for people to flash their lights. The tradition happens between 8:30 and 8:35 P.M.

The hospital approached Big Blue Big Solutions and asked if they wanted to take part in the program.

The company's regional supervisor Jay DeJesus said, "we really wanted to get involved, anything to help the kids."

He adds when it's safe to do so, the company wants to have Nibbles go and visit the children at Hasbro.

Dozens of Providence businesses and organizations take part in Good Night Lights, along with police cruisers and people in their cars who flicker their lights for five minutes.

DeJesus said the gesture brings light and hope to the Hasbro patients in their rooms.
