BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Nearly 1,000 people gathered at the Hatch Shell Memorial to watch the Red Sox take on the New York Yankees on the big screen.
The Sox organization invited residents to enjoy free food, entertainment, and giveaways on the Charles River Esplanade while cheering on the team. Fans like Orion were happy to be at an event he called wholesome.
"I think it's a nice way for the Sox to do something for the fans, you know, to have like a free event like this, give out some swag, put the big game on, especially in such an important rivalry like the Red Sox-Yankees," Orion remarked. "And the way that we've been beating them this year, it's just, it's really great."

Fans got the chance to take pictures with the 2013 and 2018 World Series trophies, hit a couple of home runs of their own in the batting cages, and take a few swings on a golf simulator. They also received complimentary picnic blankets. Bostonians like Meg and Amanda gave the event a glowing review.
"10 out of 10, 10 out of 10, it's so cute, so fun. Weather's perfect, Sox are winning, good vibes and better," the duo said.
The Red Sox have beaten the Yankees in eight consecutive games this season. According to the MLB, over those eight games, Boston has outscored New York, 48-22. A lone Yankee fan named Alex, who was on-site to support his team, said he is used to being the odd man out in the land of the Red Sox.
"I'm the only Yankee fan in every bar I go to, so I watch the games there. So I'm always in enemy territory," Alex said.
The Red Sox will take on the Yankees again on Sunday at 6:10 p.m. in the Bronx.
