BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Aramark and Fenway Park could not come to an agreement with UNITE HERE Local 26 concession workers by noon on Friday, and the concession workers have gone on strike. They and their colleagues at MGM Music Hall are walking the picket line, having gone on strike against Aramark. Their demands include citywide standard wages and guardrails against automation, something that Red Sox fans can get on board with.
”It's just weird. Like, just keep the people there. We like the people better than the robot," Hannah, a frequent Fenway Park goer, said.
The union is asking fans not to buy any concessions during the strike, which is set to last three days through The Red Sox series against the LA Dodgers. A sacrifice some fans are willing to get on board with.
“If you look at cost of living in Boston for the past few years, kind of difficult for them to kind of survive on that," one Red Sox fan said in support of the strike.
Aramark says it has contingency plans in place to make sure the fan experience does not suffer during the work stoppage. The Red Sox say they are monitoring the situation closely, and the union has even sent a letter asking owner John Henry to intervene.
