BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Could Boston’s Seaport District be the next hot spot for Hollywood filmmakers? A local filming scout said he has high hopes for the area.

Mark Fitzgerald has scouted filming locations for big time movies, including “The Town,” “The Departed,” and most recently, “Wonderland” — starring Mark Wahlberg.

He said filmmakers love Boston and New England because the area has so much to offer.

“Boston just got great looks,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s got great locations. It’s got a great look. It’s a great old city.”

Fitzgerald said it’s time for the Seaport District.

“It’s all new. Doesn’t have any old, really,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s got a whole different look. So, I would say underrated: Seaport. Overused might be Charlestowns and the North Ends. Again, they’re overused for a reason, because they’re spectacular.”

He said the film industry has been booming ever since the state began offering a film tax credit.
