PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — As Memorial Day weekend creeps closer, a familiar sound and causing some noise complaints on the South Shore.
Despite the fact that setting off fireworks is illegal in the Commonwealth, it has not been uncommon to hear loud bangs throughout the summer months. On Tuesday night, residents in Plymouth, Mass., reported hearing fireworks.
“That doesn’t surprise me at all because it’s bound to happen, but you’ve got to use some safety and some common sense on that, I think,” said Diane, a North Plymouth resident.

Anyone caught using, selling, or possessing fireworks can face up to a $100 fine and have all their fireworks confiscated. Some people said they believe there should be steeper punishments for violators.
“They’re illegal for a reason. They’re illegal because they’re dangerous,” said Elise, a Manomet resident.
Leslie has a dog named Oreo and neither is a fan of fireworks.
“Honestly, for me, the fireworks really bother the dog, so that makes it more difficult for me to enjoy them,” said Leslie.
