First Case Of West Nile Virus This Year In Middlesex County

WAKEFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The first human case of West Nile Virus this year has been reported in Middlesex County.

Middlesex County is considered a high-risk area for the disease, with many reported samples from mosquitoes.

State health officials say a woman in her 70s was exposed, becoming the first human case this year for the county.

Some local residents said they aren't "very concerned" but they "wouldn't be walking around late at night" since the mosquitoes would be more active at this time.

West Nile Virus can be very serious and state health officials suggest taking precautions against mosquitoes like insect repellent with deet in it.
