New Public Virtual High School Opens In Massachusetts

NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new public virtual high school in Massachusetts, located on a college campus, has opened.

A ceremony was held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, to celebrate the opening of the Felix Commonwealth Virtual School.

Felix combines a flexible digital curriculum with an in-person learning hub at Lasell University in Newton, offering tuition-free public education, competency-based pacing, and embedded college credits.

“Universities are the hubs of society,” said Lasell President Eric Turner. “At Lasell, we are proud to bring together learners from across generations and backgrounds. We are excited to welcome The Felix School to our beautiful and conveniently located campus.”

Turner, Newton Mayor Marc Laredo, and education leaders from around the Commonwealth took part in the opening.

Felix Commonwealth is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and is open to students in more than 90 cities and towns in the Greater Boston region.

Classes at Felix begin this fall.
