BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tis the season for plows and salted roads— but the first legitimate accumulation of snow in Massachusetts on Sunday seemed to get the better of many drivers with its slippery conditions. At its peak, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said they had just short of a thousand pieces of equipment out working in storm operations, with speed restrictions temporarily put in place on roads across the Commonwealth.

The question remains: which Bay State municipalities received the most snow for the first precipitation of the season?

The National Weather Service shared a glimpse of the answers on Monday with its Snowfall Report. Here are some of the highest numbers:

  • Conway: 6.5 inches.
  • Ashfield: 5.3 inches.
  • Westfield: 6.5 inches.
  • Plainfield: 6.6 inches.
  • Easthampton: 6.5 inches.
  • Warren: 5.2 inches.
  • Williamsburg 6.3 inches.

Most eastern counties of the Commonwealth hardly saw anything above two or three inches, Boston received around 1.4 inches of snow according to the NWS.

WBZ's Jim MacKay spoke to some South Shore residents who were out shoveling the few inches that remained on the ground in the morning.

"Put on the boots, put on the uniform— go to work," said Charlie, a custodian in Norwell.
