BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has confirmed that a woman from Hampshire County has died from a vaping-related illness.
The victim, only described as a woman in her 60s, is the state's first vaping-related death.
There have been nine confirmed cases of lung disease related to vaping, and ten other probable cases in the state. 121 suspected cases have been reported since September, when the state began requiring clinicians to report unexplained vaping-associated lung injuries.
The death comes just two weeks after Governor Charlie Baker declared a public health emergency, temporarily banning the sale of vaping products.
