Fitchburg Man Dead In N.H. Crash After Driving Wrong Way

CANDIA, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New Hampshire State Police said a man is dead after a fatal crash near I-93 in New Hampshire. A State Trooper first noticed the SUV headed directly for him, going northbound on I-93 South, early Sunday morning at around 2:00 AM.

Police identified the driver as David Hartenstein, 39, of Fitchburg.

State Police said they tried to stop the driver numerous times, putting up roadblocks, setting up spike strips, and warning other drivers to get out of the way.

They said the driver evaded their roadblocks and drove at and around the Troopers trying to stop him.

Hartenstein then turned onto Route 101 West, heading east, and suddenly veered off the highway a short time later. The SUV appears to have rolled over, and Hartenstein was pronounced dead at the scene.
