BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Fitchburg State University has partnered with Mount Wachusett Community College, a school without dormitories, to allow their students to enjoy campus life.

Community colleges have become free in Massachusetts, which has led to growing student bodies.

Many of these schools lack the campus living arrangements of other high education organizations, leading to many of these new students wanting a way to experience the full college experience of living at the school.

With this collaboration between FSU and MWCC, some of these students will get this opportunity.

The agreement was signed earlier this month and will allow for qualifying MWCC students to live in the nearby FSU dorms and participate in Fitchburg campus life.

Matthew Lechter from FSU helped to spearhead the program, and he said the university has received calls from MWCC students in the past that wanted a full college experience that comes with living in a dorm on a college campus.

Lechter also mentioned how this program will benefit both schools and their combined student body.

“It allows for greater life learning to take place for the students here at Fitchburg State,” he said. “It brings more students, more vibrancy to the campus as a whole.”

According to Lechter, FSU had been trying to fill up empty dorm space anyways, so this was truly a win for both schools.

The program officially launches next fall and will cost about $5,000-$6,000 per semester.

More information regarding the dorm sharing program can be found here.
