BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Shuttle buses replaced services on parts of the MBTA Green Line E branch Sunday morning after two train carts collided.

A passenger light railed train collided with an out-of-service train near Somerville just after midnight, MBTA said.

In a statement to WBZ NewsRadio, MBTA said five people in the passenger train were taken to the hospital with one passenger reported a neck injury. No word on the conditions of those passengers.

“The MBTA apologizes to Green Line customers who are impacted by the disruption in service, following a late night incident involving two trains,” a T spokesperson said.

Shuttle buses continue to replace service between Medford/Tufts and North Station on the E branch.

NTSB and the Federal Transit Administration are investigating the incident.
