BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Police are investigating a shooting Sunday night that wounded five people as the day-long Dominican Parade and Festival was winding down in Franklin Park.
Police said they heard multiple gunshots fired just before 9 p.m.
They said the five victims, three young men and two young women, were found near Circuit Road in Roxbury and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In a statement after the shooting, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said, “I’m grateful to the festival organizers for hosting such a welcoming and well-attended event that thousands of people enjoyed throughout the day, and I’m deeply disturbed that anyone would seek to disrupt this family-friendly day with violence.”
Police Commissioner Michael Cox is asking for the public's help in identifying who is responsible. “If anyone has any video footage, anything of that sort, we need help on this one, because we need to hold these people responsible.”
Cox said the violence “really marred a pretty successful event for the folks here.”
