BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Boston-based company has invented a bracelet made to help women get out of uncomfortable, dangerous, or otherwise unwanted situations.
Flare co-founder Quinn Fitzgerald, a sexual assault survivor, explained how the bracelets work.
"You can press the button once and get a phone call, that's your excuse to leave," she said. "Or, you can press hold, and send a message with your GPS to five friends."
Fitzgerald said a quarter of all college-aged girls say they've been in a similar situation.
"These are regular occurrences that happen in people's lives," she said. "It's not just about emergencies."
The Nova Cuff bracelet was created after years of studying the problem, and getting feedback from those affected.
"It looks like jewelry, and we spent years making sure it was designed to be hidden in plain sight," she said.
