BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mike Kennealy, a housing and economic development secretary under former Gov. Charlie Baker, announced his candidacy for Massachusetts governor.
In a video posted Monday morning, Kennealy said Massachusetts is “headed in the wrong direction.”
“Everything from gas to housing to taxes is too expensive,” Kennealy said.
The Republican will be running against incumbent Gov. Maura Healey, who said she plans to re-election.
Kennealy is a Massachusetts native, growing up in Reading and Medford. He graduated from Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School, according to his website.
Before joining the Baker administration, Kennealy spent nearly two decades in private equity, including a managing director role at Spectrum Equity. He most recently served as senior advisor and chief strategy officer for Boys and Girls Club of Massachusetts.
In his post announcing his candidacy, Kennealy said his three priorities for Massachusetts are affordability, a “great future for everyone” and a government “we can all believe in.”
“The people of Massachusetts expect and deserve better,” Kennealy said.
