BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – Scott Brown has served as a United States Senator and Ambassador to New Zealand. Now, he is taking the stage this weekend as he fulfills a new career as a rocker.

“I started learning how to play the guitar after I lost the election in Massachusetts,” Brown says. “The first five songs I learned were Cheap Trick songs.”

Brown formed a band while on duty in New Zealand that played together for almost four years.

Once Brown came back to the states, he sought out some of the most talented musicians in the area to reform the band into its current lineup, known Scott Brown and the Diplomats.

The band mostly plays classic rock covers and so far, audiences seem to enjoy them. This includes Brown’s own daughter and American Idol finalist, Ayla Brown.

“She was a little skeptical,” Brown states, “then she looked at me and says, ‘You know what dad? I was wrong. You guys are really good.’”

The band has two shows this weekend. One is Friday at The Breakaway in Danvers and the other at Indian Ranch in Webster on Saturday.

A list of more upcoming shows can be found on the band’s website.
