QUINCY Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Sometimes, music can save the day! That’s exactly what happened in Quincy when a former music teacher turned Quincy Police Officer used the power of song to help a small girl who was stuck in a tree.
It all started when Officer Cameron Smith responded to a call on Thursday, when he found a young girl named Clea who happened to be stuck in a 10-foot-tall Witch Hazel tree. According to Smith, little Clea’s reasoning for climbing to the top of the tree was purely innocent.
“[Clea] wanted to be closer to the sun and get a better look, and [children] have such a precious and innocent way of thinking about things.”
Clea was obviously quite scared when she realized that she was stuck in the tree and that there wasn’t an easy way down, so she quickly became frightened and afraid until Smith realized that there was one way to allay her fears.
“I just started singing to her... the first song that popped into my head had to do with being way up in the branches of a tree,” Smith said.
Getting Clea down from the tree was no easy task as the little girl’s foot was also stuck too.
“[The trees] can get really thick, they can grow into each other and get all tangled up, so it got to the point where [her] mom couldn’t get to her [either],” Smith said.
This tactic seemed to work until firefighters arrived and found the safest way to rescue little Clea from the tree and bring her back to the ground with smiles all around!
