BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, his office announced Sunday.
According to a statement obtained by CBS News, the president has an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer “characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
“The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians," the statement added.
“Cancer touches us all,” Biden wrote in a post on X Monday morning. “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”
The diagnosis comes after Biden was being examined and treated for other related health issues.
After the announcement, thoughts and prayers poured in from both sides of the aisle.
“I would never wish that on anybody, no matter a president or a regular person,” one Bostonian, who did not agree with Biden’s administration while serving in office, told WBZ NewsRadio.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump posted said on social media that they are “sadden” to learn about Biden’s diagnosis. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris also sent well wishes to the Biden family.
“Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership,” Harris said on social media. “We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”
Biden’s family has had a history advocating and fighting for a cure for cancer when Biden’s son, Beau, passed away after battling with brain cancer in 2015.
“Hopefully those treatments could help extend his life and maybe even continue to make an impact on the rest of the world,” another Bostonian said.
