BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Jimy Williams, former Astros, Blue Jays and Red Sox manager has died at 80 after a brief illness. Williams played and managed at the big-league level over his four-decade long career in baseball.
Williams' career highlights include four seasons as the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays. Under his guidance, the team would achieve a 53.8% winning percentage. Later in his career, Williams would serve as the manager of the Boston Red Sox. According to CBS Sports, “in parts of five seasons there, he won 54% of his games and led Boston to a 5-9 postseason record."
Williams also won the 1999 Manager of the Year award before he parted ways with the team during the 2001 season. After his tenure with the Red Sox, Williams would serve as big league manager for the Houston Astros from 2002-2004.
Williams is survived by two sons Brady and Shawn, who remain active in baseball.
